Dixie Nut House

Candy & Novelty Company

Columbia, South Carolina

Since the late 40's Bruce Kelly has been cooking nuts in every way possible.

He boils, roasts, bakes and fries nuts of every description.   Now, for the first time, he's making Dixie nuts available to everyone.

He started out on the Granby and Olympia Mill Villages in Columbia, South Carolina.  Bruce sold his nuts to the mill workers as they changed shifts; and the rest is history.

We believe he came up with the first "salted in the shell p-nuts" back in the early 50's.

Dixie nuts are cooked in small batches and cooked to order.  There is no inventory on hand.  Your order is prepared fresh when received, under our owner's watchful eye and with over 50 years of experience.

Dixie Nuts come in a variety of mixtures:

Almonds, English Walnuts and Pecans spicy HOT!!  Bruce says, "They have some kick.  Don't order these if you don't like spicy hot...Cajun Style!"

Pecans roasted to perfection in real butter and salted just right.

Roasted P-nuts

Boiled P-nuts

(Primarily for folks here in the South.  Yankees don't like em).

Cashews

Pick your nut and how you want them cooked.  Leave the rest to us.

Lyrics to 'Dixie'

Written by Daniel Decatur Emmett

I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten,
look away, look away, look away, Dixie land.
In Dixie Land where I was born in,
Early on one frosty mornin'
look away, look away, look away, Dixie land.

I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand
to live and die in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie!

South Carolina

Asked by the Revolutionary Council of Safety in the fall of 1775 to design a flag for the use of South Carolina troops, Col. William Moultrie chose a blue which matched the color of their uniforms and a crescent which reproduced the silver emblem worn on the front of their caps. The palmetto tree was added later to represent Moultrie's heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the attack of the British fleet on June 28, 1776.
